Role description

• Manage ethics committee in T4SG and/or manage diversity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives within T4SG
  • For ethics: scoping out a spring 2023 ethics project, outreach to policymakers and tech ethicists, identifying tech ethics resources
  • For diversity: creating and monitoring T4SG’s diversity roadmap, working with board and project leads on inclusive recruitment, meeting with project leads regarding belonging and ethical project development on projects
• Commitment to diversity and inclusion, thinking about strategy to maximize access to underrepresented students in tech/software
• Be an active member in the T4SG community! (socials, events, board meetings, etc)

Time commitment: 8-12/week

Interview process

There will be a 45 minute interview that will have a few questions about your work in T4SG as well as talking through a deliverable.

Deliverable:

• Please create a one-pager with:

  1. Your strategic goals for the Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Ethical Tech role. Indicate whether you are applying to lead the Ethics Committee or lead Diversity initiatives within T4SG, or both.
  • For Ethics Committee, feel free to describe other goals, but we particularly would like to hear your goals regarding:
    • Potential projects for the ethics committee
    • Selection of ethics committee members
  • For Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging, again feel free to describe other goals, but we would like to hear your goals regarding:
    • Diverse recruitment into T4SG
    • Equitable upward mobility
  • For other, please include other concrete goal/improvement you would be passionate about pursuing

  2. How you plan to achieve them

  3. [IF APPLICABLE] The metrics you can use to track them on a near-weekly basis. A few pieces of advice:

  • Be cognizant of how easy it is to track the metric you’re referring to! (ex: hours per week can be hard because it varies by weekly task and person)
  • Focus on depth and not breadth! You should have a sense of where Ethics can improve and think about a few key strategies rather than going super wide and half-executing on many of them.

Interview structure:

• 45-min interview between 11/28 and 12/4
  • The reasoning behind the 45-min-long interview is that we can really talk in-depth through some of the ideas you bring. Additionally, it won't give as much pressure to answer questions very quickly and give you time to think through your answers (which should hopefully mean that you won't spend a ton of time preparing before the interview).
  • It very well may not take the whole block but it’s useful just to keep the time blocked off!

Now - Sunday 11/27: Apply for the position by emailing Christina, Isaac, and April. We will then reach out to coordinate interview times with you.
